Founded in 1894, Cabadbaran rose from its Spanish period beginnings to become the premier town of Agusan del Norte. Its rich cultural heritage is evident in its preserved colonial period houses and its archaeological collections.

Through Republic Act No. 9434, this municipality was converted into a component city of the Province of Agusan del Norte known as the City of Cabadbaran on July 28, 2007.

The city has also a booming economy based on agro industry, commerce and trade, source of several export and industrial products; it has also varied ecotourism destinations ranging from Caraga's highest peak, mile long tunnels to adventure tourism sites.

Easily accessible from the cities of Surigao and Butuan, the City has modern transport, communications, banking and accommodation facilities that could provide all the convenience a modern traveler needs.

It's rich cultural heritage is evident in its preserved colonial period houses and its archaeological collections. With a land area of 32,746 hectares spread in 31 barangays, it will soon be the new provincial hub  for transportation, communications, and commerce.

Take a glimpse of Cabadbaran's rich history in its ancestral houses bearing Spanish-Era architecture. These mansions which were used to be inhabited by the ilustrado (elite), serve as the  "city's living museums" which captured the glory of a bygone period. The most prominentof these is the Atega ancestral home, the biggest and most beautifully preserved in the Caraga region.

An emerging tourist spot in Northern Mindanao, Cabadbaran  lists among its eco-tourism attractions the Caraga mountain ranges, mile-long tunnels and a host of outdoor adventure sites.

A must-visit is the Lepanto Tunnel 240 which affords visitors an exciting caving adventure with its awesome stalactite and stalagmite formations. At the end of the tunnel, cavers can get a first-hand experience of the life in an undeground gold mine.

Visitors will not go empty-handed with the city's treasure throve of souvenir items such as nito, rattan baskets, Manobo-inspired barongs and outfits, and native accessories. It is also noted for Calo Candles or "Caraga Heart" handcrafted scented candles for home and garden use.
